Revised Strachan House Redevelopment Approved at Wellington & Strachan

August 17, 2026

Updated renderings reveal the revised design for the City-owned Strachan House redevelopment, for which City Council approved Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments in July, 2026.

Advanced by CreateTO and Homes First Society through Toronto Builds, the DTAH-designed mixed-income community pairs an 8-storey supportive housing building with a revised 29-storey rental tower incorporating the designated Strachan House.

The irregular 5,530m² site comprises 53 Strachan Avenue and 805 and 805A Wellington Street West at the southeast corner of Wellington and Strachan. It contains the vacant former Strachan House lumber mill, the two-storey Maple Green stable building, the Garrison Flats Community Garden, and critical Toronto Water infrastructure near the southwest corner. The below-grade Metrolinx rail corridor runs along the south, while Stanley Park and its planned extension lie east. Mid-rise residential and commercial buildings line Wellington to the north, 5- to 16-storey residences stand west, and taller towers rise beyond the tracks.
